Role Summary

To carry out testing activities as defined by the test strategy for a defined project or product in the commercial Insurance domain.

Identify areas for improvement in test design/execution and communicate this information clearly and precisely to the Test Manager.


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Identification and maintenance of test cases and test results using Jira
  • Review test cases and test results.

Awareness of project definition and defined deliverables, acceptance criteria and quality requirements.

  • Ensure that defects are recorded and categorised accurately.
  • Ensure that tasks assigned are addressed in order of agreed priority.
  • Ensure that work carried out is in accordance with agreed processes.
  • Understand functional documents/user stories/feature epics of the assigned project.
  • Keep up to date with test industry standards, tools and approaches

Attend appropriate project meetings with other project team members and end users to gather information and fully understand the scope of the product and/or project.

Determine test data requirements and gather, manipulate and maintain that data to ensure a stable test environment for the testing of new and amended software systems.

Ensure all design and development of formal test cases are based on agreed test strategies and relevant specifications in line with defined acceptance criteria.

Contribute ideas and suggestions for possible improvements to current processes.

Feedback and communicate with the product or project team regarding problems, defects, questions and suggestions that arise during the development and delivery lifecycle.

Review technical and user documentation.

Essential Skills/Qualifications

Experience of testing large commercial software applications, preferably in the commercial insurance domain.

Ability to specify and design test cases.

Ability to identify defects and categorise them according to agreed standards.

Good communication and reporting skills (written and verbal).

Ability to follow and adhere to quality processes.

Ability to define requirements for an appropriate test environment.

Ability to perform effective testing of software.

Aware of testing techniques and standards.

Ability to implement testing tools effectively.

Ability to describe strategies for testing of both new developments and the maintenance of existing systems.

Ability to analyse and recognise risks and use results to prioritise testing and share them across the team.

Ability to interact effectively with others such as users, developers and managers.

Ability to estimate all aspects of testing.

Desirable Skills/Qualifications

Experience of commercial insurance software implementations e.g. Genius, Guidewire, Fineos, Iris, Xuber for Insurers etc.

Exposure to MS SQL Server Management Studio coupled with knowledge of basic T-SQL

Experience of functional, automated & non-functional testing

Experience of Telerik Test Studio
