Job Description / Profile:
In consultation with the lead of the Environmental Biogeochemistry Laboratory (EnvBioLab), the senior soil laboratory technician will undertake technical activities to support the EnvBioLab in the design and execution of soil and plant sampling, analysis, data manipulation, handling and reporting. The senior technician should help organizing the laboratory, the right use of its equipment, reagents and consumables inventory, and support its user community.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
- laboratory management, cleanliness, and organization, assuring good governance and ethics at all times and all process within the lab
- understanding of common protocols and needs of the user’s community
- support its user’s community
- support the lead of the EnvBioLab with analysis and project’s demands
- responsible for the overall good functioning of the lab
- responsible for the buying and storing process of equipment, consumables and chemicals
- help the EnvBioLab to comply with all national and international regulations aiming to make the lab a reference in Africa
Relevant Background and Experience: A graduate of chemistry, physical chemistry or agricultural chemistry, and a minimum of 3 years of working experience as technician in soil/plant or chemistry laboratories. Exposure or experience to relevant spectroscopic and spectrometric techniques and willing to learn is very important.
